Drop anchor in Camden for Labor Day weekend, Aug. 31-Sept. 1, 2018, when the harbor will be filled with the sails and masts of nearly two dozen windjammers and schooners. Friday, Aug. 31, brings the launch of Camden’s 25th annual maritime celebration, the Camden Windjammer Festival, which features the largest gathering of windjammers in the northeast. The festival offers two full days of family-friendly events, spirited competitions and nautical exhibits that can only be experienced on Labor Day Weekend in Camden.
This year’s Festival will have an expanded schedule Friday — with vendors, exhibits and competitions — and end Saturday night with the Harbormaster’s Dance Party on the public landing.
In addition to the arrival of the fleet into Camden Harbor throughout the afternoon Friday, the day’s events will include the start of the Build-a-Boats, Radio Controlled Boat Races, Displays of Maritime Traditions and Crafts, a Lobster Hauling Demonstration, Treasure Hunt, Nautical Dog Show, the annual Bay Winds North Wind Ensemble Concert at Harbor Park, the Schooner Talent Show and Fireworks over the Harbor.
Saturday will include the Camden Rotary Club Pancake Breakfast fundraiser, First Fish Relay Race, Pirate Activities and Demonstrations, West Bay Rotary Club Chowder, Children’s Drawing Class with Buckley Smith, Schooner Open House, Lobster Crate Race, Build-a-Boat Parade and Race, the Boat Parade Finale and the Harbormaster’s Dance Party.
There is plenty of free activities, and sights to see. Stop in for an hour or spend the weekend!
A complete schedule will be posted shortly.
