Hiking

There are many miles of hiking and mountain biking trails accessed from the base of the Ragged Mountain Recreation Area. The two primary trailheads are at the northern and southern ends of the main parking lot. There is also a set of kiosks with information and maps available on the left near the boat launch area just before entering the main parking lot. Below are two key documents you will want to review and probably print if you are new to the RMRA. One contains descriptions of the various trails and the guidelines for enjoying them and the other is a trail map. They will print best on 8.5″ x 14″ legal sized paper. If you need further information or suggestions about the hiking trails call the Parks and Recreation Office 236-3438 or send an email to info@CamdenSnowBowl.com. Please note that during the winter season, from December 1st through March 31st there are different policies in effect for trail use and dog visitations at the RMRA.

Mountain Biking

Trails are primarily maintained by the local Mid Coast Maine Chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association (McNEMBA).

This active group promotes all aspects of mountain biking such as working with landowners, sponsoring trail rides, supporting special events and races, as well as maintaining an extensive system of trails. You can learn more about them by visiting www.NEMBA.org.

Rules and Considerations

If there is a function at the lodge, please be courteous and ride well away from the activity on the lawn. These trails are multi-use so be careful if you encounter hikers. Please stay on the trails and do not leave any trash. No motorized vehicles are allowed on the trails or ski slopes. Dogs are allowed. Town ordinances require that you pick up your dog waste. There is a Mutt Mitt dispenser at trails kiosk as well as on trees in the parking lot and near the trail head. Many bikers enjoy a swim at the boat launch in Hosmer Pond after their ride. There is a port-o-pottie at the ball field.

If you have any questions or concerns contact the Parks and Recreation office at 236-3438 or info@camdensnowbowl.com.
